On Sunday 26 April, WTC Rotterdam Art Gallery will open an exhibition featuring works on paper by three artists, whose drawings invite the viewer to slow down and lose themselves in rhythm, form and narrative.
OPENING
Sunday 26 April 2026, 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm
Featuring a live performance by sound artist ROEL MEELKOP at 3.00 pm
Exhibition: 26 April 2026 to 21 June 2026.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The gallery’s curator, Astrid de Pauw, has brought these artists together out of her love for drawings and works on paper. She hopes above all to convey the intensity of the works, partly because the series are often shown in limited selections and can now be experienced in their entirety.
The approach, working method and visualisation reveal the artists’ unique signature and their equally important motivation. What they share is that the works do not stand alone, but are created in relation to and in response to one another, in grand, interconnected series of drawings. Works that, in their quantity, scale and significance, invite one to slow down and view them in personal silence. Marco Douma presents two large installations of drawings, derived from series that previously served as source material for audiovisual works. Although movement and sound are now absent, they unmistakably reveal the passage of time. Hulya Yilmaz approaches this large series of drawings from an emotional perspective, in which she explores a subject that is personal to her to the very limits. Esther Schoonhoven draws light onto dark backgrounds, with every scratch and smudge forming a new sentence within a larger narrative.
